Theatre Beginning (Theatre I)
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisites: None
This class provides students with a general survey and appreciation of Theatre Arts. Emphasis on skill development, including exercises to build self-esteem, trust and empathy are integrated into the course. Acting experience in this course includes vocal and movement exercises with opportunities to experience and participate in the creative processes of performance and production. An exploration of script reading, stage vocabulary, Shakespeare, and creative writing are incorporated into the course. Students learn the art as an audience member, as well as a performer.
COURSE NOTE: Students will perform in at least one assigned production during the semester.
Theatre Intermediate (Theatre II)
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisites: Theatre Beginning and Instructor Approval
This class integrates and builds upon concepts and skills from the Theatre Beginning course. Through various modes of expression and performance, students will study and respond to a variety of theatre experiences that will refine their communicative, collaborative, analytical, interpretive, and problem solving skills. This course develops students’ knowledge base, expands their understanding of theatre, and begins the application of learning in forms of informal and formal productions. Students may take this course more than once for credit with recommendation of the Teacher.
COURSE NOTE: Students will perform in at least one assigned production during the semester.
Theatre Accomplished Honors (Theatre III)
Grades: 10-12
Prerequisites: Theatre Arts I and/or Theatre II. An Interview and instructor approval is required.
This is an Honors level class. Students exhibit independence, discipline, and commitment to the theatre process through their work on assigned projects. This course involves additional in-depth application of theatre arts knowledge, skills, and processes. Advanced work in acting skills and preparation, play analysis, and character interpretation are explored. Theatre study at this level places a greater emphasis on the execution of skills, ensemble work, and collaboration with other student artists.
COURSE NOTES: Attendance at after school rehearsals and performances as assigned is required. Students are expected to work on NCTC festival in the Fall Semester and the Musical in the Spring Semester.
Theatre Advanced Honors (Theatre IV)
Grades: 10-12
Prerequisites: Theatre Arts III (Proficient) and an Interview.
This course will require students to become initiators of learning and accomplishment, demonstrate leadership, ownership and expertise in theatre arts. Emphasis is placed on in- depth expansion of self-evaluation. Students may take this course more than once for credit with recommendation of the Teacher.

Technical Theatre Beginning
Grades: 9-12
Prerequisites: None
An introduction to all areas of theatre; especially beneficial to students who appreciate theatre, but are still trying to find what really interests them. If students would like to focus on tech theater, there is a tech theater pathway in this course which will prepare them to take Technical Theater I.
Technical Theatre Accomplished (Honors)
Grades: 11-12
Prerequisites: A minimum of one Theatre Honors class and an Interview.
Students will further develop their technical theater skills in the areas of directing, stage makeup, costume design and construction, theatre organization, management and operation, scenery design and set construction, theatrical lighting, and sound effects. Students will work on the technical aspects of our extracurricular productions and will be given the opportunity to perform leadership roles in those productions. Technical Theatre Beginning is a Prerequisite.
